mirrors and doubles

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
"The classic "having sex in front of a mirror" trope is what we originally had in mind with this one, but there are plenty of ways to freshen it up if that alone doesn't interest you. This is also a space for more conceptual kinks about mirrors and reflections like attraction to the same-ness of a clone or twin or AU!double.
-
Having sex or doing kink in front of a mirror means being able to see the action better or from multiple angles. So mirror-sex can be a combination of exhibitionism and voyeurism, of watching in the mirror and showing off for the mirror. And sometimes it's about changing behavior based on what you see, looking at the mirror to find a better position or a more effective angle. This is especially useful when people aren't facing each other while having sex/doing kink -- a top might look at hir partner's facial expression in the mirror while administering a whipping, for example.
-
Mirrors can also be about the sense of exposure: you could think about a character being told to spread hir legs and look at hirself open and vulnerable in the mirror, or told to keep watching their own reactions during sex or kink, or told to use a mirror to photograph themselves while masturbating. For some folks, watching themselves having sex in the mirror can be humiliating -- it requires acknowledging desire or attraction or the specifics of the current scene much like begging or dirty talk do."

This kink SCREAMS Niou/Yagyuu to me. Like, the two of them switching roles and then having sex, and getting off on watching and touching someone who is them-but-not-them, or just one of them switching and then having sex as the same person.

crossdressing

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Like its sister category gender play, crossdressing can be an identity category to one person and a kink to another and a kinky-identity to a third - not all incidences of crossdressing are thought of as kinky by the people involved, but some of them are: hence the category.
-
But you could also think about times when a person is dressing as a different gender from their own but not behaving like they are expected to behave - when the kink might be in the disjunction between wearing a dress and sitting with your legs spread, or wearing a suit and playing with your hair."

THE RETURN OF ILJIMAE, Iljimae crossdressing picspam, with some commentary? The scene where Iljimae wears Dal's hanbok and doesn't seem to distinguish between gendered clothing because to him it's all foreign clothing. Dressing as a gisaeng in order to gather information on his mother, feeling more free to ask in that guise.

"For some, there's an element of training or obedience in this kink - as in corrective slaps - and for others, it falls more in the category of humiliation. But it can also be done as simple, low-tech painplay - is there any feeling quite like the sharp sting of being slapped? or as a kind of physical shock. You needn't limit yourself to the face, either - slapping the breasts, genitals, thighs, feet, and hands are other popular options."

authority figures

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Authority figures might mean teachers, bosses, parents, police officers, or a range of other classic roles. You can choose whether you want your story to be roleplay, AU, or the exploitation of a canon relationship. The important thing is to have the "authority figure" relationship be the erotic focus of the story – so it can't just be a story where Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, who are teacher and student, have sex; they have to be getting off on the master/padawan thing specifically.
-
The kink for authority figures tends to be involved in kinks about control, power, obedience, penance/punishment, rewards for good behaviour, humiliation, consent play, and feelings of safety or security, as well as a multitude of other kinks that attach to specific kinds of authority figures
-
Teachers are also a common authority figure found in kink scenes; there's something about the combination of authority and intimacy, in a teacher/student relationship, that makes it hot.
-
--the combination of authority and intimacy doesn't have to mean authority and tenderness - it can also be about the intimate knowledge that a teacher and student might have about each other, and how it can be motivated in cruel or punishing ways."

emotion play

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Although the phrase "emotion play" may lead you to think exclusively of mindfuck situations, we really mean any kind of manipulation of a person's emotions, and we mean the term "manipulation" neutrally - although it may evoke situations that involve lying or noncon, we really only mean "changing something intentionally" when we say "manipulation." There's a huge category of kink that includes consensual fear play (intentionally inducing a state of terror via various methods), but this category also includes intentionally altering someone's mood to make them feel happy, compliant, calm, energetic, submissive, angry, upset, or any other emotion.
-
To me, the really interesting thing about this kink is the intimacy that it implies. In order to hurt someone physically or make someone feel physically good, you don't have to know them very well (though it helps) - but in order to hurt/please them emotionally, you have to know exactly what their buttons and triggers are. In a consensual scene of emotion manipulation, you have to know those buttons and triggers well enough to play with them without causing any psychological harm - and that takes a lot of trust and a lot of intimacy.
-
Emotion play is also wonderful within a D/s dynamic, as there is no greater method of leveraging control over someone than exploiting their most personal pleasures and fears.
-
Manipulating someone's emotions might also go into fantasies about getting a very controlled person to express their feelings, or - for that matter - into making a space in which someone who's normally very emotionally controlled feels safe expressing their feelings."

I can definitely see Yukimura/Sanada there, since Sanada is so repressed and usually needs to be pushed around to get to talk about anything. And of course Yukimura is the one who can do that.

The last part mentions a fantasy. Maybe Yukimura fantasizes about getting Sanada to admit to his feelings? xD

humiliation (in public)

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
(This one was on my card last year too!)

"Humiliation is a physical sensation: folks may feel flushed, adrenaline-y, anxious; they may hide their faces, blush, squirm, or stutter; they may cry or get angry.
-
To be humiliated, you first have to desire or identify with something shameful; to be shamed, there has to be someone else there to see your shameful desire and judge you for it (embarrassment is about other people, even if they're only imaginary). Whether you go with public humiliation or humiliation that happens in public, the root of the kink is pretty much the same - exposure, or else the fear of exposure, or else the thrill of getting away with something and therefore not being exposed.
-
Public humiliation has a long history in many cultures as a form of sanctioned legal punishment. In fact, all three of our video examples are insitutional (a prison, a school, and a medical institution). Just a few historical examples include being forced to wear some kind of badge of shame, social punishments enforced via the loss of face, European and colonial American use of the stocks and pillory, and crucifixion in Ancient Rome.
-
This is all to say that public humiliation is often about feeling shame in the eyes of society, for having broken the laws of that society, rather than simply looking like a fool in the eyes of a single person.
-
Because it tends towards the social, then, you may find that public humiliation overlaps a lot with kinks like authority figures, medical kink, or uniforms/military fetish - since public humiliation is a traditional tool of institutionalized societies like schools and prisons.
-
Also, there are some kinds of humiliation that work best, or only work, in public - various kinds of outing; being forced to wear a sign around your neck; being forced to say something embarrassing, revealing, or sexual to an authority figure; being forced to wear clothes that are too revealing, too gaudy, or age-inappropriate; being told to act clumsy in front of others by spilling food on yourself; and so forth. When in doubt, you can always turn to the various military and educational hazing traditions, which have included anything from public paddling, to forced exercise, to forced infantilism (wearing a diaper, for example), wedgies, public confinement, etc."

plushie or furry kink

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
"'Furry kink' is the term we're using to refer to the transgressive or sexual enjoyment that some people find in looking at representations of anthropomorphic animals, roleplaying as anthropomorphic animals and/or developing an animal alter ego (fursonas), and wearing anthropomorphic animal costumes (fursuits). This is the kinky side of furry fandom, although it's important to note that not all people who identify as furries see it as arousing, or as a kink. 'Plushie kink' is the term we're using to refer to what's more usually called plushophilia, which is the attraction to and love of plushies - stuffed animals and plush textiles (like the kinds also worn and enjoyed by fursuiters).
-
Though there's some overlap here with animal play, and parts of this kink might be considered a subcategory of animal play, kinks for fur and plush tend to be quite different from the animal play kinks described over there. Whereas animal play tends to be about how different humans and animals are - how animals are rough, violent, dirty, or inarticulate, and how they're servants or companions to humans, but not human themselves, this category is much more about the kind of animal play that enjoys how close animals and humans are to each other. So there's a great fondness, in furry fandom and among plushophiles, for the Disney-style cute and intelligent cartoon animals, for example (animals who are very human in behaviour) as well as for mostly-human characters with some animal attributes (like a character with a fox's ears and senses). This kink might also be connected to certain kinds of ageplay fantasies (cuddling stuffed animals, being attracted to or roleplaying as cartoon characters) and certainly to a kink for sensation play, since many plushophiles and fursuiters find the texture of plush or faux-animal fur exciting.
-
There are all kinds of different kinks associated with furry and plushie play; some people like rubbing off against their stuffed animals, or against another person in a fur suit; some people like getting the plush or fur all covered in semen or lady-jaculate or pee; some people like the delightful incongruity of adding leather or bdsm gear to a plush animal or a fursuit; and some just like the feel and texture of the materials, the comfort of a quiet stuffed animal companion, or the opportunities for imaginative roleplay. You can also think about the contrast between sexual activity (especially kink sexual activity) and images or objects that generally denote childhood, innocence, and play: putting those two things together, as also happens in some ageplay fantasies, can make for a heady mix."

animal play

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
"This kink allows for a lot of interpretation – anything from animalistic behaviour like sniffing and growling, to specialized sex toys (like the buttplugs that simulate puppy tails or bunny tails), to play with textures like fur and feathers, to things like ponyplay and puppyplay (including the use of bridles, crops, spurs, saddles, bits, collars and leashes), to sex-with-sentient-animals (where is my Valdemar-universe fic where someone gets it on with a Companion), to outright bestiality. Lots of fandoms have built-in tropes that can help – tentacle monsters, animagi, werewolves, shapeshifters, spirit animals, and so forth.
-
Although the term animal play might bring to mind prop-heavy kink involving bridles and saddles, it also includes the somewhat cheaper option of behaving in an animal-like fashion. This can include any kind of behaviour from any kind of animal: snarling, sniffing, scratching, growling, biting, lipping, barking, oinking, meowing, whinnying, walking on all fours, certain kinds of licking, mounting, humping, turning around three times before going to sleep, kneading (like cats), pouncing, playing tug, playing fetch, scent-marking . . . and on and on."

uniforms / military kink

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
"This includes a range of options –- military paraphernalia like uniforms, thigh or shoulder holsters, knives and guns; commander/subordinate behaviour involving the giving and taking of orders; the fetishization of military protocol (watching someone take a gun apart, salute, or do pushups). Also, "uniforms" need not designate military uniforms exclusively -– soccer players, firemen, policemen, schoolgirls, and ice cream vendors could also fit in this category, if you've been looking for the right category for your ice cream vendor fetish.
-
Military fetishes sometimes play with the idea of military discipline, of a tough-but-fair drill instructor shaping a good soldier. There are a whole bundle of kinks related to the idea of boot camp and military school: obedience and "total control," authority figures and mentorship, and punishment and discipline, just to name a few.
-
Another element of military fetishes: military skills. So you could think about pushups, field-stripping rifles and marksmanship, standing in formation (no matter what, no matter the weather -- and we're back to obedience again), hand-to-hand combat, and so on.
-
Military fetishes can also revolve around interrogation scenes and prisoner-of-war fantasies, where the scene involves people from different nations -- a spy is brought to a military base, a young recruit is sent to a prison camp, or a resistance fighter is captured, that sort of thing.
-
And of course you can play with this any way you like -- as roleplay, as an AU, or as a canon situation where one person gets off on another's military skills or uniform. Uniform fetishes and military roleplay can also play with what a "military uniform" is -- things like tactical corsets and latex fatigues spring to mind, on the military side, and there are also "naughty schoolgirl" uniforms and tear-away police uniforms and so on on the non-military side."

silk, velvet, feathers, furs

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
"This category acts as a sort of counterbalance to leather/latex/rubber; like that category, this one deals with materials that are often worn as clothing or fetish wear, that have particular class connotations and histories, and that people often find appealing because of the sensuality of their textures. Obviously, where leather/latex/rubber as a kink has its roots in lower-class or military settings, as well as in the post-WWII American leather scene, silk/velvet/feathers/furs has its roots in high-class histories. Whether it's silk kimonos or mink stoles, these materials suggest a sense of luxury and opulence.
-
In exploring this kink, you might focus on these materials as they are used for garments - people wearing silk, velvet, feathers, and furs - or you might focus on them purely as sensual objects. All four are often found in sensation play scenes where variously textured materials are run over a person's skin, and feathers and fur especially are particularly useful for tickling. As a kind of sensation play, tickling with feathers and furs can easily transition from the luxurious and decadent to the painful and torturous.
-
But feathers aren't the only aspect of this kink. Silk sheets and bear-skin rugs are other common manifestations of this kink; silk is a popular material for bondage and also for mummification; velvet as an upholstery material has definite historical/decadent connotations, etc. So, although our examples are primarily about clothing, you don't have to limit yourself to clothing when making your fanwork. And, of course, materials that aren't quite silk/velvet/feathers/fur, but that approximate them - rayon/velveteen/fake feathers/vegan fur/equivalent alien materials - are also welcome here."

danger

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
"This kink covers a lot of territory, but might include a focus on the dangerous (or perceived-as-dangerous) aspects of fluid exchange; breathplay; sex or kink in public; fearplay, edgeplay, mindfuck, humiliation, identity category slurs, and some other forms of emotion play; abandonment fantasies; scenes involving blades, guns or other weapons; acrophilia (getting off on heights or the sensation of vertigo); various kinds of "adrenaline junkie" or thrill-seeking behavior (extreme sports, for example); criminal activity; amputation and some other forms of body modification (which may be dangerous socially, physically, or both); various kinds of exhibitionism and exposure (including being outed as queer or kinky etc); being recorded during sex or kink; some aspects of prostitution; having sex or doing kink with strangers; and some forms of consent play, including situations of consensual non-consent, metaconsent, or dubious consent (which may also involve kinks like sleepy/unconscious, hypnosis/mind control, and authority figures)."
-
Danger can be exciting for a lot of reasons: to begin with, if something is dangerous (physically, emotionally, or socially), then it's something you're not supposed to do, and taboo is always a fertile ground for kink. More than that, danger places the body, or the self, at risk, and that kind of risk can make you feel vulnerable, or small, or mortal: open to the world and its power over you (so, for some, danger is the ultimate reminder of submission: you are not in control). There are also the physical effects of danger: when people talk about the "rush" of skydiving or the "thrill" of having sex in a semi-public place, they're referring literally to the feelings triggered by an adrenaline rush - that good old fight-or-flight reflex.
-
A really common fandom example of "getting off on danger" is the character who loves to fight, and especially loves to fight if there's a real chance that they might get hurt or killed; the tougher the odds, the better they like it.
-
Sometimes this kind of character is also a masochist, or a sadist, or some combination of the two; Kenpachi is interesting because he's not turned on by the pain itself, instead counting it as a price to be paid for the enjoyment he gets from the fight. So in your fanwork, you can choose whether or not to combine this kink with a kink for pain (whether giving or receiving); while pain and danger often go together, pain may or may not be part of the danger kink.
-
But there are plenty of different reasons, and methods, to do danger kink, or adrenaline-junkie-ing: B'Elanna Torres from Star Trek: Voyager, at one point, starts doing extreme sports on the holodeck with the safety protocols off (thus taking a chance with her life and allowing herself to become hurt on many occasions). B'Elanna's interest in danger turns out to be an emotional one: through her increasingly dangerous activities, she's able to provoke herself into feeling something at a time when she mostly feels depressed and numb. Danger becomes a way for her to deal with her own mortality as well as the mortality of her dead friends.
-
Indeed, the emotional aspect of danger play is often really important; with kinks for things like humiliation, mindfuck, or fearplay, part of the danger (and, sometimes, part of the attraction) comes from the fact that the person who's being mindfucked or made to feel fear is not entirely in control. B'Elanna intentionally removes her own control by setting the holodeck safeties to off, putting her life and safety in the hands of a randomized computer program; in partnered kink scenes, this is often done by putting oneself in the hands of another person. Even if you've consented to a mindfuck scene and set parameters, there is still sometimes the feeling that something might go wrong or get out of control, and that emotional or psychological damage could result before a safeword (if there is one) could be called; like the risk of physical injury, the risk of emotional injury is a turn-on for some folks. Not knowing what's going to happen, and whether you'll be able to handle it, and whether or not you'll like it, can be a powerful kink experience."

Re: danger

[personal profile] umiyuki 2011-07-18 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
This one makes me think of Niou/Yagyuu as well - Niou is established as having sort of a thing for danger, and I think if he were able to get Yagyuu to unwind a little, Yagyuu would find doing dangerous things completely exhilarating because he's usually so buttoned-up and always represses any urge that doesn't fit with his gentlemanly persona.

You could also do something here with someone trying to get a reaction out of Tezuka, like Atobe taking him on increasingly dangerous adventures ("Let Ore-sama show you the joys of skydiving, Tezuka!"). I could see Fuji being a bit of an adrenaline junkie as well, and trying to get Tezuka to do dangerous things with him.

vanilla kink

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
"A kink for vanilla may seem paradoxical, but the great thing about kink is that it can encompass anything - including the thing that's supposed to be its opposite. This is the category for characters who get a thrill out of roleplaying normativity or pretending to be "traditional." And of course even if a given person does identify as "traditional," they might still get a thrill from their own performance of traditionalness (ie, they don't necessarily have to be doing roleplay).
-
What counts as "vanilla" changes depending on who you ask and depending on your cultural context, but broadly speaking, a kink for vanilla can be defined as a kink for conforming to social expectations (and, in some cases, queering those social expectations just slightly, or making them your own). So you might explore things like over-the-top husband/wife roleplay (perhaps with a little 1950s America style to give it that Mad Men flair), penetrative intercourse, arranged marriages, baby-making (or, of course, roleplay-baby-making), pregnancy, weddings, gendered coming of age ceremonies, strictly defined gender/sexuality roles, handholding in public, and (I'm thinking now of certain types of romantic comedies) some flavours of jealousy, possessiveness, extreme monogamy, and courtship/pursuit.
-
Since this category has a lot of crossover with the "domestic" aspect of domestic/tradesman kink, we also suggest that you have a look over there for more ideas.
-
Vanilla kink is perhaps a little easier to pull off for non-heterosexual couples (or for poly folks!) because non-heterosexual, non-monogamous people doing heteronormative traditions tend to automatically call attention to the charged, eroticized nature of heteronormative traditions. Which is not to say that all gay couples or poly groups getting married are necessarily doing something kinky, but debates about gay marriage do tend to show off, whether they intend to or not, just how cherished and deeply fetishized marriage is. Of course, straight and otherwise "normative" couples can totally get off on their own normativity (or roleplayed normativity) as well! It might just take a little more work, for those pairings, to make it into vanilla kink rather than actual vanilla.
-
Vanilla kink can hit on any aspect of traditional life - in fact, if you're able to put the word "traditional" before it, it could probably be included as a kind of vanilla kink. So phrases like "traditional courtship," or "traditional sex life" or "traditional family" are all examples that have culturally-specific meanings (depending on where you go) that can be perverted to kinky purposes. So you might think about characters "making out at the drive-in" or "getting jealous when the other woman is around" or "being a good girl" or "being a good son" - if it involves traditional gender or sexuality roles, it can be done here."

I think I most like the last part and how it might affect a gay couple, especially the traditional 'being a good son' upbringing. Clearly an awesome PRINCE OF TENNIS option, because Sanada and Tezuka both read that way and it's clear they could easily sabotage their own relationships through it. And how would it affect their partner if either of them needed ways to feel their relationship was more 'traditional' or 'inoffensive'? (Though the people I tend to pair these boys with wouldn't exactly have feminizations issues, I don't think XD But they COULD.)

I could see Yukimura perhaps being kind of pissed about people assuming he's a girl or the weaker/submissive one in the relationship. Maybe play with that?

sex toys (non-penetrating)

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 07:33 am (UTC)(link)

"A catchall category for toys not covered under "object penetration" – vibrators, sleeves, cockrings, suction devices, clamps, and so on.
-
There are a lot of different kinds of sex toys in the world, and this is a space for all of them! The only thing that doesn't fit in here is toys being inserted into the body, which goes over in object penetration. That doesn't mean you can't use dildos and internal vibrators here, though; it just means you have to use them on the outside of the body, or along with other non-penetrating toys.
-
And that is just the tip of the iceberg of sex toys! Because this category also includes various kinds of pervertibles, which can mimic any of the above sensations or toys."

electricity

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably the easiest electrical stimulation to describe is the kind of zap-tingle sensation that you can get from an electrical shock -- you might've felt it from a poorly grounded plug. But depending on the voltage and amperage, electrical play can produce all sorts of sensations: movement of current through the body can feel like an internal vibrator, or sharp and staticy, or like a gentle tingle, or like a hand brushing across your skin. Electrical toys can also trigger muscle response in parts of the body and make muscles clench and release. Both of the most popular kinds of electrosex toys come from medical electrotherapy: the violet wand was sold to treat skin conditions, and the modern power box devices descend from medical TENS units. Since electrical toys come with a lot of electrical engineeringy background, there's some talk about different amperages and so on here; that's for folks who are interested in that kind of thing, since for some people that's part of the kink, but you don't have to understand voltage to enjoy electrical play."

electricity: potential idea

Gokaiger, ep12 flashback to when Marv and Joe met.

So much potential here; Joe has had the tracking device on who knows how long? How much does he identify with it as a part of him by this point? And the way Marv just recklessly attempts to rip it off, knowing it could risk Joe's life, hoping that because he shares the charge that they'll both be safe. (Marv is a huge candidate for danger kink btw).

I want to think for this square that perhaps Joe has an emotional issue with the electricity; the charge is something he now associates with Marv, and with being saved, given a second chance. It isn't much of a stretch to go from that to a bit of playing with electrical charge for kink purposes ;)

wrestling / grinding

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Wrestling, rolling around the on the floor, half-fighting/half-fucking, up against a wall, penetration without lube/foreplay/prep, smacking each other around . . . this is a pretty classic and well-loved fandom trope. And this is also the space for grinding-style kinks about frottage, tribbing, scissoring, interfemoral sex, dirty dancing/club dancing, clothed grinding, dry humping, lap dances, footjobs, handjobs, titfucking, and friction as sensation play.
-
I think of this kink as a sort of amalgam of several other kinks - painplay (other), held down, and masters, doms, slaves, and subs (for dominance games). The wrestling parts of this kink are what happens at the intersection of those three, though of course your wrestling story/artpiece doesn't have to necessarily involve all of them.
-
Perhaps the most familiar kind of wrestling play is one in which two people are struggling for dominance - even physically fighting each other - and that fight morphs into hard, unrestrained sex that's just as likely as the fighting to cause bruises. What a lot of people like about this kind of struggle/fight/sex/wrestling is the feeling of desperation or need that comes along with it - that people might be "out of control" with desire the way they can go out of control with anger.
-
The other popular form of wrestling for dominance in kink practice is the takedown scene, which is a form of consent play and is often connected to rape fantasies. There are many, many ways to do a takedown scene, from physically subduing someone who is fighting back, to tracking down and catching someone who has run away, to kidnapping someone as they struggle to get free. Takedown scenes tend to be about a person who wants to be forcibly subdued or immobilized, which often goes along with a rape fantasy, but their fantasy doesn't involve going quietly, but rather includes kicking, biting, scratching, etc.
-
Grinding against someone is something that takes little preparation time or safety precautions, so is popular as a kind of "anytime, anyplace" sex: characters who are really into clothed grinding might particularly enjoy dark alleys or bathrooms or dimly-lit staircases. You could also think about this kink's ability to fly under the radar - the way a couple might get away with this while sitting close together on a couch in a public space, or a person by themselves (generally, a person with a clit rather than a cock) might be able to get off hands-free just using the seam of their jeans, even while sitting in a meeting or a place of worship or any other public space.
-
But that's only a few of the facets for this kink; you can also feel free to explore interfemoral sex (rubbing a dick, whether organic cock or dildo, between someone's thighs), titfucking (rubbing off between someone's breasts), rubbing nipples together, tribbing and scissoring (typically, people with clits straddling each other's thighs), lap dances (again, amateur or professional), or any other kind of grinding-style sex you can think of."

You could also do Tezuka/Niou grinding for this, I think :D

held down

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 07:56 am (UTC)(link)

"This is perhaps the most intimate form of bondage - using only your hands, legs, weight, etc. to stop someone from moving obviously requires being extremely close to them, maybe pinning them down with your entire body. This is a familiar trope from fandoms in which a character is distraught or upset and has to be suddenly physically restrained. The "down" part of "held down" is optional - any situation in which one person restrains another with their body is fine, even if they're standing up.
-
The way that the positions required to hold someone still or hold someone down tend to mimic sexual positions has not been lost on popular culture, and is a wonderful classic approach to this kink."

painplay (other)

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Here is the category for beating (punching, kicking, etc., including slapping), pinching, biting, scratching, hair-pulling, stretching (as on the rack), various historical torture devices, fandom-specific torture devices, or any other kind of painplay that we didn't cover in the other categories.
-
While we'd like you, if possible, to avoid focusing on the specific implements mentioned above and covered by other kinks (whips, floggers, canes, needles, knives, and paddles), other kinds of overlap in this category are a-ok. So you can make use of pain caused by any kind of body-on-body contact (including slapping and spanking), as well as heat and cold, electricity, drugs, loud noises, abrasion, bondage, rough sex, biting, etc. What you want to focus on in this category is the pain itself, and you can use all kinds of different methods to inflict that pain. We only ask that you not focus on those specific implements listed above because they are so common in painplay practice and painplay fic, and we'd like to give other kinds of pain a place of their own.
-
Pain, like all sensations, is experienced differently by different people, and even by different groups of people (women tend to have higher pain thresholds than men, for example). For many people, the physical or emotional reaction that they have (or have trained themselves to have) to pain is gratifying, satisfying, or pleasurable in some way. For others, even if they don't enjoy pain per se, they do enjoy the emotional aspects of being forced to endure something they don't enjoy (so, they like the domination that the pain represents, rather than the pain itself). Pain is something that people are often expected to avoid, and so seeking it out willingly can also carry a kind of satisfaction. You might want to focus on the emotional reactions to pain, or on the use of pain as punishment, or simply as a form of sensation play.
-
Pain is often described as a sensation very close, in its way, to pleasure - because it's overwhelming or uncontrollable, because it's structured (like orgasm) around anticipation and release/relief, or because the nervous system responds to them both in similar ways - with endorphins and adrenaline, making the heart race and the blood pound.
-
You could also think about how the endurance of pain can demonstrate strength of will, or how a willingness to put yourself in pain can demonstrate the absence of fear.
-
And of course there are many other kinds of torture devices that you might work with (though some of these are so damaging/deadly that they might only show up in fantasy or in noncon): thumbscrews, lead sprinklers (can also be filled with boiling water), Iron Maidens, the Pear, the Catherine Wheel, The Jerking, the Witch's Chair, the Judas Cradle etc.
-
There are also modes of painplay that use bondage or verbal commands to induce pain or discomfort; almost any kind of bondage position can become uncomfortable if a person stays in it for a long time, and then there are the ones - like hogtying, arms above the head, wrists bound to ankles, etc. - that tend to get uncomfortable fast, especially if there's little room for the bound person to move. Then there are options like chaining or connecting sensitive parts of the body: earlobes to nipples, say, or penis to toes, or neck to belly-button piercing. These all restrict movement and cause pain. Other kinds of endurance painplay might be the use of things like the Judas Cradle, listed above - an object that a person stands straddling, that is set just a little too high to allow them to stand flatfooted on the floor. This forces them to stand on tiptoes to avoid lowering their body down onto the hard or even pointy surface, and after a while the strain of standing that way will become too much. You could also simply think about verbal commands to hold positions - try standing with your arm held straight out at the side, perpendicular to your body, and you'll soon see how difficult and painful it can become to hold a position that puts even light stress on the muscles."

exhibitionism

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
"This kink has a range of possibilities – from flashing, mooning, and other kinds of partial exposure, to the desire to be watched while having sex, to the desire to be naked in public, to the simple desire to be watched, regardless of one's state of dress. As always, outside-the-box interpretations are welcome.
-
Exhibitionism has a lot of overlap with exposure: they have a bunch of elements in common, though both also have their own distinct flavors. So don't worry too much about the overlap, because some of the same acts can work in both places! To parse out some of the differences, I want to talk a bit about intent and emotions: exhibitionism is usually defined as getting off on the possibility of being watched, on the chance that others might see; exposure can be less about being viewed and more about being vulnerable, about the humiliation of being unable to cover one's body, or about positions of the body, to name just a few aspects.
-
There are a lot of public spaces where social nudity is permitted, and those spaces can be fun for exhibitionists -- or not so fun, if part of the thrill is the public disapproval. There are also kinds of exhibitionism that don't involve taking off any clothes: dancing to draw attention, performing in public, some kinds of teasing and flirting, and so on. And there are kinds of exhibitionism that are nominally-private but involve the thrill of the possibility that others might see or hear: leaving the blinds open while getting undressed, having loud sex in an apartment, or stripping or lifting a skirt in the car, for example. Exhibitionism can also be a more private experience, done in private spaces with one or several people viewing. You could think about characters masturbating while their partners watch; characters dancing, stripping, or performing for a private audience; or characters who like to be naked around the house with partners watching.
-
Another legal space for exhibitionism is sex blogging, which reminds me of the association of pictures and exhibitionism: photos/video can be a tool to play with consensual exhibitionism in a sort of no-limits irretrievable way, which some people find really hot."

gangbang

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Occurs when multiple people all use one person for their pleasure, using toys or dicks or hands (often involving multiple penetration) or giving/receiving oral sex or wrestling/grinding. We've often seen this written as "really bottomy bottom has everyone queue up to fuck them," but other variations could be fun too! A gangbang is differentiated from an orgy by the focus of participants: an orgy is a bunch of people all having sex together or in the same room, and a gangbang is focused on a single individual.
-
The interesting thing about gangbangs, though, is that they're not typically about the folks doing the fucking -- the formula of dicks-in-orifices puts a patina of this-is-for-the-fuckers'-orgasm on top of a gangbang, but the erotics of the kink tend to be all about the recipient being fucked-until-sore, being willing and able to take fucking from a long line of people, or being humiliatingly nothing more than a hole for other people's pleasure. So gangbangs are almost always about the recipient's pleasure at being used, or about the fuckers' or watchers' pleasure at causing or witnessing humiliation, more than they're about achieving orgasm as the person doing the fucking -- the erotics don't tend to be orgasm-centered, which is handy if the wait in line is long!

PRINCE OF TENNIS: So I not so long ago wrote an epic 11,000 words gangbang fic which nobody but Cyn has even read (I am lucky to have even one person I am comfortable sharing everything with, I know!), but that was in a girl!au universe. oral fixation

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
"This is the category for all kinks that focus on the mouth; your character might have a body part fetish for other people's lips, teeth, or tongue; a love of sucking/licking/biting things with their own mouths; a desire to be sucked, licked or bitten; a particular or intense love of giving or receiving oral sex; an erotic thrill derived from tasting things or people; a need to suck their thumb or bite their nails; and so forth. If you're sad that "deepthroating" is no longer its own separate kink, then we heartily invite you to write it for this prompt instead.
-
For this kink, you can focus on someone who likes to use their mouth, someone who likes to watch other people use their mouths, or something in between.
-
Because a mouth is thought of in different terms than a cunt or an ass, there's a tendency to assume that a person giving oral sex isn't getting off on it - that they're doing it solely in order to please their partner, or even because their partner doesn't want them to have an orgasm.
-
But of course people do get off on giving oral sex - some like the sensation of fullness or stretching when sucking cock, or the smell and wetness of cunnilingus, or the sense of control it gives them over the other person's pleasure (giving oral from the top), or the sense of submission they feel on their knees between somebody's legs (giving oral from the bottom).
-
Oral sex is only one aspect of this kink, though - you could also explore fetishes for other common sucking/licking/biting activities, like thumbsucking (which, like nipple sucking, might be connected to an infantilism kink), nailbiting (which might also fall under hand fetish), and smoking (which is connected to images of rebellion against authority). Of course the act of putting fingers or cigarettes in your mouth has long been considered an oral sex substitute - hence the popularity of smoking scenes as stand-ins for sex scenes in early American cinema - but they can absolutely be erotic as activities in themselves."

"So prison fantasies are another way to play with power dynamics, often with elements of consent play as well -- the prisoner can't say no or walk out, and the guards know it.
-
Many of these cages have more going on than simple confinement -- there are humiliating and dehumanizing aspects to being exposed, to being turned into part of the furniture or kept in a cage like a dog."

THE RETURN OF ILJIMAE: Iljimae confined/imprisoned picspam. There are so many instances of this, but the most especially kinky one to me is when the monk confines Iljimae (for a year?) and we see Iljimae's emotions changing over time (we see the seasons change in the surrounding scenery) until he is pretty much brainwashed/stockholmed in my eyes *_*

"The penance in question could be assigned or self-inflicted within a secular context, in order to have a character make up for some fault or failing. There's a lot of crossover here with various kinds of painplay, as punishment is often thought of as physical pain inflicted on the body; but you should feel free to consider other forms of punishment as well – orgasm denial/ruining, any kind of humiliation, various kinds of dehumanization play . . . anything can be a punishment, really, depending on the character.

historical roleplay

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 08:29 am (UTC)(link)

"One way to interpret historical roleplay is to think about playing particular historical characters who had interesting relationships, or who might've had interesting relationships if they'd ever met, or who had interesting desires or kinds of power.
-
This is also one of the only kinks we have that has a space for thinking about settings and scenery as potentially erotic. Western bdsm has a huge thing for dungeons, of course, but you could play with any kind of historic setting where the history or the time period is part of the charm! So you could think about taverns, brothels, caravanserai, or palaces, for example. And sometimes it's not a particular setting in a time period -- not just the dungeon, but the whole flavor of medieval Europe; not just the andron, but all of the trappings of the Ancient Greece; not just the disco, but everything about the 70.
-
Playing with historical settings also intersects with other kinds of roleplay, often bringing in different ideas or tropes! So to play with different aspects of authority figures, people might think about classical Greek erastes and eromenos, lord and vassal, king or emperor and subject, 19th century schoolteacher and schoolboy, or master craftsman and apprentice. Or historical roleplay could intersect with thinking differently about sex workers: courtesans and temple prostitutes, delicatue and meretrices, pallakae and hetaerae. If it's a category of roleplay, you can probably find a place for it somewhere in history."

dirty talk

[personal profile] emothy 2011-06-03 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Not to be confused with phonesex/epistolary, which is a separate category, this isn't just talking during sex or saying sexy things, but getting off on the dirty talk itself, on the very fact that someone is articulating their desires or potential erotic scenarios.
-
Dirty talk and phonesex do overlap a bit, as you'll see below where one of our dirty talk videos involves the phone; they're a little bit like a Venn diagram (where verbal humiliation also overlaps a little) - there are activities that would qualify as both dirty talk and phonesex, but each kink also has its own unique area of specialization. Dirty talk is primarily about how erotic it can be to say or to hear something said aloud, or articulated openly (as in the case of people who use ASL) - and that something can be almost anything, depending on the characters. The classic scenario for dirty talk is one person attempting to articulate another person's hidden desires or fantasies.
-
In a lot of cultures, talk about sex is forbidden or makes people uncomfortable, and especially talk about certain kinds of sex - gay sex or kinky sex, for example. So for some people, talking about fantasies or about sex acts they're going to perform is more taboo and boundary-crossing than actually enacting such fantasies would be; and indeed, some people want to hear about things that they don't actually want to do in real life - it's just fun to say. Dirty talk can become a kind of fantasizing-together with someone else, rather than fantasizing alone, and that too can be powerful and hot and intimate.
-
Of course, one of the great things about this kink is that talk is everywhere - and often the kind of talk that one person finds sexy is not the kind of talk another person realises is sexy. For some, just hearing another person's voice - perhaps a particular person's voice, or a particular kind of sexy voice - is the hot part."
