interlude; 'Age is just a Number' Fic Meme

I've been in search of writing memes for a while now, and [livejournal.com profile] vacivity picked me one out to try on y'all ;)

Age is just a Number;
Comment with a character and an age/time period (high school, birth, "their thirties") and I will try and write a ficlet centred around it. If other characters are involved, that's up to you!

If you want to include an additional prompt/quote/object/whatever, so much the better. I like specifics :)

eta; Heh, memes are fun! If you want to request again, keep 'em coming! :D

eta2; Links to comment replies thus far!

Tezuka at 13. for [livejournal.com profile] vacivity.
Niou, age 25. With Yagyuu. for [livejournal.com profile] giving_ground
Tezuka...early twenties. (with Fuji) for [livejournal.com profile] reddwarfer
Akaya at 25. (With Sanada) for [livejournal.com profile] obsessed_love
Yukimura, age 20. (With Sanada) for [livejournal.com profile] giving_ground
Fuji/Saeki at 27. (With Tezuka) for [livejournal.com profile] crysaliz

*beez deliberately unspecific* ;)

Tezuka, at 13.

You are mean but I defied you anyway ;)

[identity profile] fsop.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
At 13, Tezuka is vice-captain of the tennis team, and it's just not as fun as you might think ;)

-

"I picked up more than you!" Momoshiro insists, pointing to his basket of tennis balls.

"You didn't." Kaidoh replies.

"Did too!"

"Didn't."

"Did too!" Momo shouts even louder than before. "Count them!"

He tips the basket upsidedown and the balls scatter back across the courts. Fifteen minutes completely wasted.

Tezuka looks round hopefully, but the captain has already made himself scarce. Tezuka vows to emulate him next year when he is captain, and be gone long before the trouble starts. As hard as it is to admit considering the trouble they cause between them, Tezuka knows Kaidoh and Momoshiro will be good enough to make Regulars when he is captain next year. If he is smart he won't have to deal with them, however.

"Momoshiro!" He yells. "Kaidoh! Ten laps each and then you can pick up the balls all over again, between you. One at a time each; it is not a competition!"

"Mmm, sounds to me like you are jealous of their rivalry." Fuji says lightly, watching the way Tezuka meets Inui's eyes and silently demands that he time their laps lest they slack off. "But I think there are a few people out there who would consider you to be their rival."

Tezuka ignores him and reaches for Kaidoh's basket of tennis balls, upturning it so that they have twice the amount to pick up when they return.

"But you don't consider them your rivals?" Fuji asks, quirking his head a little to try and catch Tezuka's eye. Tezuka does not look his way, does not look at anything but the tennis balls on the floor until he senses Fuji leaving.

No, he thinks to himself, he does not consider anyone his rival yet.

Also, another prompt! Fuji, in his thirties, with Yukimura, and Paris, as a prompt..

Because you said you wouldn't mind ;)

[identity profile] vacivity.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You fuck on the top of the Effiel Tower, surrounded by tourists. It's really just handjobs, but an orgasm is an orgasm, and for some reason, the fire burns all the stronger that night. Maybe it's the knowledge that you're so high up, looking over the city of lights and love. But mostly, you suspect, it's because it's completely public and anyone could notice you.

It's night, and the two of you are free for a few hours, a rare thing when you're in Paris. Atobe had dragged Tezuka off for dinner, and a meeting between the artiste and his patron rarely included his famous models.

"As if they think we are clueless," Yukimura says, after they are gone, long before the evening is underway.

"But time is time," you say and toss a small flyer across to Yukimura, who briefly glances at it.

"And things are always better for us after Atobe's gotten his way. The Effiel Tower, we've not gone there yet."

"I do so love it when their trips coincide." You're busy punching in numbers on the hotel phone, to arrange the evening. Neither of you want to be in the hotel all night long, with nothing to do. Three floors of over-paid, drug-doing, pretentious models is not your idea of a fun time.

Cat fights are so last season.

-

No one notices you, and it's almost a disappointment, until the two of you are back in the elevator, going back to the ground floor, and Yukimura curls his hand around you once again. The elevator is packed - the person standing in front of you is close enough that you're sure he's going to turn around any moment.

Instead, his back tenses and you watch the shirt he's wearing - a horrible shade with even worse flowers, you saw it on the catwalks the season before last and whisper a brief prayer to the fashion gods that Tezuka has better taste and that he's exclusive enough to want his models to work only for him. Yukimura continues, and you've got to bite your tongue to keep from crying out. You can do this without making any noise, normally, but the thrill sends a tingle through your spine and makes it all the sweeter. But you manage, just barely, a whimper escaping you.

The man relaxes and you forget about him to turn to Yukimura, pursuing your lips and promising revenge with a smirk. You'd come out and say it, but the elevator comes to a halt and within a second, it's empty of everyone except you, Yukimura, and the other man.

"I wish I could have watched, instead of just felt it," he says, and glances behind to look at you. "It must have been quite a sight."

"You should have turned around," are your parting words, because you wrap your fingers around Yukimura's wrist and pull him out of the elevator.

And I DON'T ;)

Niou, age 25. With Yagyuu, for preference. ;)

[identity profile] fsop.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I have such an idea. Don't kill me if I can't pull it off. Cop/SerialKiller!au :)

-

He reads the case file by skipping every other page, pausing to read the profile compiled so far. The pages are stapled together in the top corner, crumpled and stained under his fingers. A coffee stain ring on the front cover matches the one on the coffee table. Niou has one foot on the floor, and one resting on the arm of the couch.

There is a shoe-clad foot touching the couch.

"Get your feet off," Yagyuu says, swatting at Niou's leg with the newspaper. There is a distinct lack of pictures, but the rumours surrounding this latest murder are enough to cover nearly two whole pages. Niou barely flinches when the paper connects, even though Yagyuu doesn't hold back when he swings. He does, however, sit up straight on the couch before putting down the print-outs.

"Most likely aged at mid-forties, probable married male, likely psychiatric issues." Niou snorts. "When don't they say that?"

"As usual, they're completely wrong." Yayguu shrugs. "Why are you surprised?"

Niou shrugs back.

"It's possible the newspapers have it more accurate." Yagyuu says. "Someone must have been pretty convincing."

"Let yourself get seen, did you?" Niou tuts. "Careless."

"And yet, you don't seem worried."

Niou kind of already knows that if Yagyuu let himself be seen, there's a good reason for it. What began as his flicker of an idea quickly became Yagyuu's masterplan. He stretches, yawns. Worrying is for losers.

"You can go into work today." He says. "I'll hang out here."

Yagyuu nods and heads to the bedroom to piece together parts of their shared uniform. More often than not it ends up scattered across the floor in no real order. The gun, as always, is in the drawer by the front door. The registered one at least.

Niou calls his name before he opens the door to leave. Yagyuu turns.

"Oh, and yesterday I told Kelly she looked hot in her jeans, so when you get in expect either a smile or a slap. I don't know which."

Oh the irony. Oh the non-angst.

-

Tezuka answers the door and notices the suitcase before he even glances at the face. He frowns.

"I'd like to talk to you about something called utter irony." Fuji says, sweeping through the door and helping himself to a seat on the couch.

Tezuka sits down in a lone chair and interlaces his fingers in his lap.

"So, you know how the last time I was here we were discussing the fact that since you are going away for a while, it would be best if we took a break." It's so unlike Fuji to be so non-specific, going away for a while. Perhaps it is the only way he can speak of this without losing his composure. As soon as Tezuka thinks this he knows it is so. He says nothing.

"Well, when I got home in the evening, my parents had discovered some, mmm... Questionable photos in my room. Of you. The ultimatum was get out. And stay out."

Fuji laughs, and Tezuka's insides freeze a little more.

"Funny no?" He asks. "That we could continue this for so many years and not be noticed at all, and yet the very night we end it, I get thrown out because of pictures taken years ago."

Tezuka can't think of anything less funny. A part of him is nagging very quietly at the back of his mind to be embarrassed for the fact that Fuji's parents have seen... Whatever they have seen, but his discomfort will have to wait for later.

Fuji stands up.

"I just thought you should know." He says. "I'm going to find myself a place to stay temporarily now. I don't want to impose on Yumiko, but perhaps Saeki, or Eiji, I don't know..."

"Fuji." Tezuka says, and stops him in his tracks. He has always had that kind of voice. "Stay here."

Fuji shakes his head.

"I thought we decided that was precisely the wrong thing to do." He replies.

"I won't be here." Tezuka insists. "No-one will be here. Anything could happen. You can... House-sit. I'll pay you for it."

"I don't think I'd appreciate being paid for my services." Fuji says, presses his lips together.

"Fine." Tezuka says. "Do it as a favour. As a friend."

Finally some logic he can accept, as screwed up as it is. Fuji murmurs some kind of agreement, dumps his suitcase in the single bedroom of the apartment, and leaves Tezuka alone to pack.

When Tezuka thinks about returning home in many months time, now he will know for sure Fuji will be there waiting.

Mmmm whenever it's Rikkai I always manage to put them on the wrong side of the tracks. Not that it's a bad thing ;)

-

He takes a deep breath. A second one. A third.

The keys still rattle in his hand.

On the first attempt, he drops them to the floor. The second is a swing and miss. The third time, he loses grip on the keys again and they clatter to the ground.

The door opens from the inside. Kirihara snatches up the keys from the floor and steps backwards.

"I didn't know you'd be here." He says quickly. Sanada just gives him the look that resembles a sneer which he seems to save exclusively for Kirihara. The first thing he does once Kirihara is inside is pick up his wallet from the table and rifle through it.

"How much do you need?" He asks.

"I wasn't going to ask." Kirihara mumbles.

"Well no, not at first." Sanada replies. He offers out a wad of notes. "If that's not enough, say so."

Kirihara doesn't look to see how much it is; it'll be enough. He puts it away and stares down at the floor. "I'll pay you back." Kirihara says.

"You always say that." Sanada says.

"But I mean to. I mean, I will, eventually."

"You always say that, too." He looks almost amused. Kirihara hopes desperately that it's a good sign. The door keys are still in his hand. He shoves them down deep into his pocket quickly.

"I'll make it up to you some other way." He tries. "I'll... Do some housework..." He trails off, glancing around at pristine surfaces and clear tabletops. Someone was clearly ahead of him. He swears under his breath.

"You can make it up to me that way if you want." Sanada shrugs. Kirihara can't believe his ears; he looks at Sanada twice to make sure he is serious. But Sanada never makes jokes.

"It's a start." Sanada says, and pulls a pack of cigarettes out of his drawer. Kirihara almost asks for one out of instinct, but quickly changes his mind. The smoke dances over to the window and slips out of the tiny opening.

"Please don't tell anyone about this." Kirihara whispers.

"Akaya," Sanada says, "as far as anyone I know is concerned, we haven't so much as seen each other since Junior High. Believe me, I intend to keep it that way."

Just because...Fuji/Saeki at 27. Tezuka still lingers in the shadows. ^_^

damn HTML! reposts

[identity profile] fsop.livejournal.com 2007-03-13 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So obviously I am biased and play up the Fuji/Tezuka more than the Fuji/Saeki. Cough.

-

They play doubles together, and Fuji never would've expected to find himself still playing tennis after high school, let alone professionally, except that with Saeki it's always so much fun. They have a killer combination, which only increases between the sheets, and that is made even more thrilling because nobody is aware of it.

Perhaps it's juvenile to keep it secret, but they met practically before they could talk. They were best friends long before lovers. When they are so secure in what they have, why would anyone else need to know?

They go back home often, visit schools and talk to tennis club members. At Seigaku, Saeki nudges Fuji in the side then watches as Fuji helps a boy adjust an all-too-familiar and incredibly powerful smash shot. He does the math and decides that even if Momo had managed to get a girl pregnant while in high school, the boy still wouldn't be old enough to be this kid.

At Rokkaku, Saeki offers to push Fuji on the swings in the playground. The last person Fuji expects to see coaching is Tezuka. He introduces them with immaculate politeness and then frowns as Fuji and Saeki are fussed over like superstars and practice is completely decemated.

Fuji remembers how much Tezuka appreciates order.

"I think your coach would appreciate it if you'd play some practice matches." He says quietly, smiling. "I know as a captain he was always making us play practice matches."

And of course, Tezuka has never told them much of anything about his time at Seigaku, so no practice matches get underway at all.

"But Fuji-san, you're not a singles player!" One of the kids says, and Fuji has to bite his lip from laughing.

"I wasn't exclusively, no." He admits. "But in high school I was generally accepted to be in the Singles Two slot."

Half of the kids look at him in awe as the other half glance at the boy Fuji assumes is their current Singles Two player.

"Who was Singles One?" Someone pipes up. Fuji just glances at Tezuka. Tezuka's frown demands that he not say anything, and Fuji complies, because he knows he doesn't have to. The kids are perceptive enough to know what his sideways look means.

"Tezuka-sensei, is it true?"

"Did you beat Fuji-san like, all the time?"

"I bet he could beat you now! He's famous!"

Tezuka looks ready to strangle someone. Saeki is on his best behaviour, managing not to giggle or even have to hide his face behind his hand. He may know best of all about the rivalry that sprung up so suddenly at the end of their third year, considering more than one day scheduled for hanging out together, just him and Fuji, had been put off for impromptu matches. But for Tezuka, perhaps they would've started dating sooner.

And if he hadn't suddenly given up the matches without even so much as a false excuse, perhaps they still wouldn't have started dating. Saeki doesn't know, but he is happy to focus on the present he is living in.

Practice ends a lot faster than usual somehow, in the team's opinion, but no-one argues when Tezuka dismisses them. Perhaps they are also perceptive enough to know when reunited friends should be left alone.

Saeki pretends he is not, for a reason he cannot name. He pops up seemingly out of nowhere and slips his hand into Fuji's. Fuji watches Tezuka take in the action as well as the way he squeezes back at Saeki's hand, and wonders just how Tezuka will handle this new information.

He certainly doesn't expect that strange, almost knowing, smile.

"Why here?" Fuji asks.

"They needed a coach, I needed a job."

"It's quite a coincidence to at the end of the day be hinged on something as simple as that."

Tezuka shrugs. Perhaps as far as he has allowed himself to think about it, that's all there is to it.

Fuji remembers how much Tezuka appreciates symmetry. Things that circle back round upon themselves. Things that end where they began.

He tells himself he is only imagining eyes on his lower back as he and Saeki head home not long after. He tells himself there is no real symmetry in his and Tezuka's story, because he cannot for the life of him remember where it began, or if it ever ended at all.
