"Who is he again, bro?" Toko asks. Sei feels the abscence of her eyes on him like an icy wind; she stares so hard in her brother's direction so as not to accidentally glance even a slight amount at Sei that even Moichi himself, blind as he is, must be able to see the intensity directed towards him.

Moichi just smiles like he knows the scowl on Toko's face from the tone of her voice, picking up his teacup steadily as he contemplates his answer.

Meanwhile, as Sei reaches for a hosomaki on the centre platter, Toko snatches it up first, chopsticks wielded like deadly weapons. She puts it on her plate and ignores it for the rest of the evening.

"Sei is my best friend," Moichi says. Sei ducks his head, knowing he is hardly worthy of the title after eight years of abscence, but keeps his hand on the table between himself and Moichi. If he closes his eyes, he imagines he can feel Moichi's hand moving closer to his, inching towards his own to cover it and claim his friendship once more. Moichi's nature has always been forgiving, and he smiles and drinks tea like nothing has changed, though it has; at twelve years old this mock-civilised affair is not something they would have indulged in.

"Hmm," Toko says in response, frowning as she sees Moichi's hand rest upon the tabletop and start to fingerwalk away from himself, and not in her direction. "Here, try this," she says, offering out a piece of nigiri-zushi to her brother. "I made it myself, it wasn't easy."

Moichi brings his hand up to his mouth to catch the sushi Toko practically forces between his lips, laughs as he bites and grabs it between his fingers.

"It's good!" He says. "Very good. Sei, try it."

He offers out his hand with the sushi still between his fingers, and Toko frowns deep enough to crack the table as Sei leans in a little, wraps fingers around Moichi's wrist to steady his hand, and hover his mouth over the piece of sushi. He knows this is exactly the sort of intimacy Toko has been trying to deny the two of them, and he wonders if they can slip back into old routines so simply, or if he is just antagonising her because it is so easy.

Sei chews and hopes to himself that he is above the latter by now. His hand is still around Moichi's wrist, and Moichi is brushing his fingers together to rub away the greasy feeling. Sei makes out as though the movement loosens his grip but all that happens is that he ends up sliding his hand over the top of Moichi's until his hand is laying back down on the table with Sei's atop it. In trying to keep his fingers from touching or stroking, Sei feels them beginning to twitch.

"That tickles," Moichi says, breaking into a grin. He does not move his hand. His free one runs fingers around the edge of his plate until he is halfway round, slides away a little to feel for his mug. Just as he is about to pick it up, Toko clatters one plate onto another and stands up in a fury. Sei does not jump, having seen it coming, but the contents of Moichi's mug end up spilt across the table.

Toko sighs in impatience.

"I'm finished," she says shortly. "Dinner is over." She rattles the plates into the kitchen and bangs them one by one into the sink. Moichi has found his napkin and is dabbing futily at the stain spreading on the tablecloth. Sei knows it will soak in, then wash out.

"Did we do something to irritate her?" Moichi asks, and he is so clueless as to what could possibly be wrong in the world with Sei back in his life, that Sei shuts his own mouth and cuts his reply short, placing a hand back over Moichi's instead.
