We Gamble To Be Born Again [Prince of Tennis: Yukimura, Yanagi, Sanada]
I stole a prompt from the
drabble_rikkai lyrics prompt table!
we gamble to be born again. yukimura, yanagi, sanada. 234 words. set in hospital, yukimura procures dice!
-
Yukimura pulls out a couple of dice from beneath his pillow. They have skulls in place of dots, and where the six should be the one side is completely blank. Sanada peers curiously over the top of the book he is pretending to read, but does not comment.
Yanagi leans forward a little, subconsciously, where he sits on the edge of the hospital bed.
"How old were we when we first learnt about probability?" Yukimura asks.
"A lot younger than we are now," Sanada replies, confirming that he is really not reading; he cannot listen and read, both at once.
His tone is dismissive as always, but Yukimura has that smile on his face that says he only hears words where Sanada is concerned.
"What are the odds I'll roll a double blank?" he asks, and though he does not direct his question to Yanagi, the reply will still come from his direction.
"Somewhere in the region of three percent I believe," he says.
"I've been offered worse," Yukimura shrugs. There is no reply for that except silence.
"If I roll double blank, then tomorrow I'll get up and play a match against one of you," Yukimura says.
Yanagi looks across his shoulder to Sanada, who is already looking back at him. Yanagi can't help but squeeze his fingers tighter around Yukimura's ankle, where his hand has been the entire time, going unnoticed.

While I enjoy reading Yuki-in-the-hospital fics, a part of me is totally scared of reading them for odd reason. I don't enjoy seeing him weak like that.
But this is pretty, and it breaks my heart against a bowl and scrambles the contents.
